MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte has indicated her readiness to face an impeachment trial, which was approved by the House of Representatives.

During a media interaction in Davao City, she expressed a desire for the trial to proceed, stating, "I really want a bloodbath." Despite her legal team's suggestions against participating, Duterte emphasized her willingness to accept the trial's outcome.

Duterte attended a thanksgiving mass before addressing the media, where she discussed the political environment surrounding her impeachment.

She mentioned that her family is actively preparing for the impeachment proceedings.

"They are in full throttle in their preparations for the impeachment.

Of course, they do not want a trial.

As lawyers, we know how the lawyers work," Duterte stated.

Her comments came amid a contentious political atmosphere, with allegations from various quarters regarding the motivations behind the impeachment.

In response to queries about her expectations for the trial, Duterte noted, "I don’t have expectations of an acquittal or guilty verdict.

For me, I already accepted the verdict whether it is guilty or acquittal.

I am already at peace." She further remarked on the potential voting dynamics among senators, asserting it is premature to speculate without evidence being presented during the trial.

The Vice President refrained from commenting on remarks made by Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco, who suggested that the administration party's lackluster performance in recent polls was influenced by her impeachment.

Tiangco alleged that congressmen were coerced into signing the impeachment complaint under the threat of withholding project funding for their districts.

He stated that the Medical Assistance for Indigent Patients (MAIP) provided to those who did not sign the complaint was also suspended.

Tiangco criticized the House leadership, claiming that there was no genuine demand among lawmakers for the impeachment process.

Instead, he characterized the actions taken as self-inflicted damage to the political landscape, asserting that the failure to adhere to the President's budget led to the dysfunction within Congress.

"The problem of the administration started when they (Congress) did not follow the budget of the President," he remarked.

The political implications of the impeachment and the accusations surrounding it continue to unfold as the Vice President prepares for her defense in the upcoming trial.
