Philippine Motorcycle Sales Reach Significant Milestone in 2025

Philippine Motorcycle Sales Reach Significant Milestone in 2025

Motorcycle sales in the Philippines have surged nearly 10% in early 2025, marking a strong demand for affordable transportation options.
In the first four months of 2025, nearly 600,000 motorcycles were sold in the Philippines, with total sales reaching 595,235 units, a nine-percent increase from the 544,580 units sold during the same period in 2024. Data from the Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries (FAMI) indicates that domestic motorcycle production also rose, reaching 360,478 units, up from 309,807 units in 2024, which is a 16 percent increase.

The sales figures represented by FAMI are sourced from the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association Inc. (MDPPA), which encompasses local subsidiaries of major motorcycle manufacturers, including Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and the Indian brand TVS.

These companies collectively account for approximately 80 to 90 percent of domestic motorcycle sales and production.

Michael Ricafort, the chief economist at Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC), attributed the surge in motorcycle sales to consumer preferences for greater mobility amid a lack of mass transport options, especially during peak hours.

Motorcycles offer an affordable alternative for transportation, allowing riders to navigate heavy traffic and requiring less space both on the road and in parking areas.

Further analysis from Ricafort highlights an increase in consumer loans, particularly indicating a shift toward motorcycle purchases.

Bank data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) points out that consumer loans, especially for motor vehicles and credit cards, grew by 23.6 percent in March.

In comparison with other countries in the region, Indonesia led the motorcycle sales with 2,089,953 units sold in the first four months of 2025. Vietnam followed with 673,055 units sold in its first-quarter report, while the Philippines secured the third position with its four-month sales figures.

Demographic factors, such as a youthful population and improving employment rates, have contributed to the competitive nature of the Philippine market.

The anticipated influx of new brands and motorcycle models, coupled with attractive financing schemes, is expected to keep sales momentum strong, potentially surpassing the previous record of 1,704,898 units sold in 2019. The first four months of 2019 saw motorcycle sales at 564,641 units, which is five percent lower than the current figures for 2025. The total motorcycle sales for the entire year of 2024 reached 1,681,482 units, with a corresponding production total of 1,253,056 units.
