Pulse Asia's April 2025 Survey Reveals Shift in Filipino Senatorial Preferences Ahead of Elections

Pulse Asia's April 2025 Survey Reveals Shift in Filipino Senatorial Preferences Ahead of Elections

As Election Day approaches, support for Bong Go surges while multiple candidates vie for the remaining Senate seats.
As the Philippines prepares for its upcoming senatorial elections on May 12, a recent Pulse Asia survey conducted between April 20 and 24, 2025, indicates that only 27 percent of the population has finalized their complete senatorial slate.

The survey reveals a significant lead for reelectionist Senator Bong Go, who garnered a preference rating of 62.2 percent, solidifying his position ahead of the election.

The survey results show an expansion of Go's lead to 20 percentage points over his closest contender, Erwin Tulfo, a representative from the administration-backed ACT-CIS Party-list, who received a preference of 42.4 percent.

This marks a notable increase from Go's previous 10-point lead over Tulfo in March 2025.

Former Senate President Vicente Sotto III and reelectionist Senator Ronald dela Rosa follow closely behind Tulfo, both with ratings of 41.1 percent and 41 percent, respectively.

The race for the remaining Senate seats appears competitive, with several candidates polling within a narrow margin of one to two percentage points.

The data suggests that most voters are inclined to support an average of eight Senate candidates, reflecting a diverse political landscape.

Pulse Asia identifies 14 candidates with a statistical chance of securing a Senate seat based on these findings:

- Senator Bong Go (Rank 1, 62.2%)
- Erwin Tulfo (Rank 2-4, 42.4%)
- Vicente Sotto III (Rank 2-4, 41.1%)
- Ronald dela Rosa (Rank 2-4, 41%)
- Ramon Revilla Jr. (Rank 5-8, 35.6%)
- Panfilo Lacson (Rank 5-9, 33.8%)
- Ben Tulfo (Rank 5-10, 33.5%)
- Manuel Lapid (Rank 5-11, 32.2%)
- Mar-len Abigail Binay (Rank 6-13, 30.2%)
- Pia Cayetano (Rank 7-13, 29.9%)
- Willie Revillame (Rank 8-14, 28.6%)
- Camille Villar (Rank 9-14, 28.3%)
- Emmanuel Pacquiao (Rank 9-14, 28.3%)
- Paolo Benigno Aquino IV (Rank 11-18, 25.4%)

Of these 14 candidates, nine are associated with the administration's Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas coalition.

Two candidates have ties to former President Rodrigo Duterte, while three are categorized as independent candidates.

Both Senator Go and Senator Dela Rosa have historical ties as long-time aides of Duterte.

Although Willie Revillame is officially listed as an independent, he is noted as a Duterte ally.

Ben Tulfo is recognized as the brother of fellow candidates Erwin and incumbent Senator Raffy Tulfo.

Candidates who are just outside the statistical winners include:

- Reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos (24.7%)
- Phillip Salvador (23.7%)
- Rodante Marcoleta (23%)
- Benhur Abalos (22.9%)

Additional candidates include former Senator Kiko Pangilinan (19.8%), Jimmy Bondoc (16.6%), and reelectionist Senator Francis Tolentino (15.7%).

The survey involved face-to-face interviews with 2,400 respondents who filled out ballots similar to the one that will be used on Election Day.

The margin of error for the survey is ±2 percent.

Notably, 8 percent of respondents cast votes for candidates who had withdrawn from the race, while 7.2 percent declined to fill out a ballot and 1.8 percent left it blank.
