The Department of Health emphasizes readiness amid recent case increases in the region.
The Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines is actively monitoring the trends of
COVID-19 amid reported increases in cases across Southeast Asia.
The DOH is engaging through established mechanisms, such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), to share verified information and enhance preparedness, despite stating that there is no reason for alarm.
As of May 3, 2025, the DOH reported an 87% decrease in
COVID-19 cases and deaths compared to the previous year.
This year, a total of 1,774
COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Philippines, a stark drop from 14,074 cases recorded in 2024.
The case fatality rate currently stands at 1.13%.
Recent trends also indicate a slight decrease in reported cases over the last three to four weeks.
From March 23 to April 5, 2025, 71 cases were reported, which decreased to 65 cases from April 6 to April 19.
The DOH has reiterated its commitment to keeping the public informed and will provide timely updates should the situation evolve.
The department encourages the public to stay informed through official channels and continues to recommend preventive measures to protect against the virus, including wearing masks in healthcare facilities, staying home when feeling unwell, covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing, and frequent handwashing.
Simultaneously, reports indicate a concerning rise in
COVID-19 cases in several areas of Asia, particularly in Hong Kong and Singapore, drawing attention to the renewed urgency of addressing the pandemic as case numbers fluctuate across the region.
