Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Chan Rejects Disqualification Case as Unfounded

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Chan Rejects Disqualification Case as Unfounded

Outgoing Mayor Junard 'Ahong' Chan responds to allegations by defeated candidate Paz Radaza amidst significant election results.
Outgoing Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard 'Ahong' Chan has publicly dismissed a disqualification case filed by defeated mayoral candidate Paz Radaza against the newly elected officials of the city.

Chan characterized the allegations as 'baseless,' citing a lack of evidence or supporting documents accompanying the complaint.

In a communication with local media, Chan stated that an unofficial copy of the disqualification complaint was received by his office on May 14, two days following the recent election.

He mentioned that he was unable to provide a complete copy of the complaint during the interview.

Amidst the political tensions, Chan also rebutted claims of vote-buying that were alleged during the election campaign, expressing surprise at Radaza’s actions, given that he believed she had accepted the electoral results.

Notably, the elections held in May 2025 resulted in a decisive victory for Team Kaabag, led by Mayor-elect Cynthia 'Cindi' King-Chan, who secured a vote share of 63.47%, translating to 142,058 votes.

Chan, who ran for a congressional seat, garnered 72.27% of the votes, amounting to 160,447.

Chan emphasized the clear victory margins, asserting that the final results demonstrated the electorate's preference, with his team winning all 15 positions contested in the elections.

He indicated that the disqualification case would not affect the Team Kaabag’s plans, noting their experience in overcoming challenges post-election victories.

"The result of the 2022 elections is still the same [as] the 2025 elections… The people have spoken.

We’ve seen the results of the election," Chan remarked, advocating for unity in moving forward for the betterment of Lapu-Lapu City.

He affirmed that the Team Kaabag slate will await an official copy of the complaint from the Commission on Elections and will provide a formal response once received.

Efforts to obtain comments from Radaza and her campaign regarding the disqualification case were unsuccessful as of press time, with no official statement released from her camp.
