Creamline Clinches Team of the Year and Coach of the Year Honors at PVL PC Awards

The Cool Smashers celebrate a triumphant season with historic accolades at the inaugural Pilipinas Live PVL Press Corps Awards Night.
On May 28, Creamline Cool Smashers was honored as the Team of the Year at the inaugural Pilipinas Live PVL Press Corps Awards Night held at Novotel Manila Araneta City in Quezon City.

Alongside their team accolade, head coach Sherwin Meneses was recognized as Coach of the Year, marking a significant achievement in the Philippine volleyball landscape.

Creamline has garnered a remarkable record of 176 wins out of 216 matches in its league history, establishing a winning culture over the past eight years.

This tenure culminated in the team becoming the first grand slam champion in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) during the 2024 season.

The awards presentation was conducted by Arena Plus, where the Cool Smashers received 13.6 points in the voting, comprised of 10.8 points from media votes and 2.8 points from team votes.

In the awards context, Petro Gazz ranked second with a total of 9.4 points, which included 3.0 media votes and 6.4 team votes.

Petro Gazz notably interrupted Creamline's pursuit of a five-peat in the All-Filipino Conference last April.

The path to the grand slam was complicated for Creamline as key players Alyssa Valdez and Tots Carlos were returning from injuries, alongside Jema Galanza's absence due to national team commitments.

In their stead, Erica Staunton, a 24-year-old American import debuting in the pro league, emerged as a vital contributor, alongside MVP candidates Bernadeth Pons, Michele Gumabao, and Kyle Negrito, to secure their championship titles.

Further contributing to Creamline's stellar season was a 19-game win streak, running from the 2024 Reinforced Conference through to the end of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference, marking the second-longest unbeaten stretch in league history.

Despite their successes, Creamline faced setbacks, including a championship defeat to Petro Gazz that halted their attempt to maintain their all-local conference dominance.

Nonetheless, the team's cohesive dynamics have remained resilient.

Sherwin Meneses, who oversaw the Cool Smashers' successful campaign, earned the Coach of the Year award with a total of 11 points, comprised of 7.8 votes from media and 3.2 from teams.

His coaching rival, Koji Tsuzurabara of Petro Gazz, placed second with 9.6 points, while Taka Minowa of Akari secured third with 2.4 points.

Meneses' leadership has fostered a collaborative team culture characterized by selflessness and camaraderie, which he maintained even in the absence of star players.

In under three years, Meneses has solidified his position as the most successful head coach in the league's history, reaching 100 wins with Creamline in a straight-sets victory over Chery Tiggo during the recent All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals.

His impressive career win-loss record currently stands at 104-18, reflecting a win rate of 85.25%, a notable achievement among the 45 coaches in the country’s premier women's professional volleyball league.
