Philippine National Police Aims for Zero Violence During 2025 Midterm Elections

PNP Chief outlines security measures as the nation prepares for elections on May 12.
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has set an ambitious goal of achieving zero violence during the upcoming midterm elections scheduled for May 12, 2025. PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil emphasized this commitment five days ahead of the elections, expressing the police force's determination to ensure a peaceful and secure electoral process throughout the nation.

During the inauguration of the National Election Media Action Center (NEMAC), Marbil highlighted that all police commanders are directed to engage with local communities and deploy all available resources to prevent individuals or groups from inciting violence during the election period.

The PNP has implemented strict measures, stressing that any police personnel found negligent in their duties will face legal repercussions.

As security preparations ramp up, the PNP has begun deploying security forces across the country in anticipation of the elections.

In a command conference held at Camp Crame, Marbil outlined a detailed operational timeline to ensure the integrity, order, and peace of the elections.

Key areas of focus include monitoring of polling precincts, critical infrastructure, and other locations relevant to the electoral process.

Marbil confirmed that the deployment of transportation, communication, and essential equipment to various regions is underway, coordinated closely with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and other partner agencies.

The PNP has also intensified monitoring efforts to enforce a nationwide gun ban as part of election security measures, responding to reports of violations from multiple regions.

In parallel, Malacañang has urged the public to remain vigilant during the electoral period, advising citizens to be critical of information and to avoid engaging with content that spreads misinformation.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty.

Claire Castro reiterated the government's openness to constructive criticism while warning against the dangers of fake news, emphasizing that voters should be cautious in their consumption of information.

The government has officially declared May 12, 2025, a national holiday to facilitate the voting process, further underscoring the importance of a fair and peaceful election.

With full police force deployment beginning shortly, the PNP aims to reinforce the presence of law enforcement across communities, focusing on preventing potential election-related incidents.

The PNP’s 'Kontra Bigay' campaign will also commence on May 9 to combat vote-buying leading up to the elections.
