Deadly Fire Claims Five Lives in Pasig City

A tragic incident leaves a family devastated as authorities investigate the cause of the blaze.
MANILA, Philippines — A fire in Pasig City resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including an infant, and left three others injured, all of whom were children.

This incident occurred late on the night of the previous day.

The deceased include three males aged 1, 15, and 45, along with two females aged 11 and 39 years.

The injured, who experienced difficulty breathing, include a two-year-old boy and two girls, aged 4 and 13.

Preliminary reports from the Pasig Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) indicate that the fire broke out at approximately 10:46 PM on E. Mendoza St., Barangay Buting, where the residence is owned and occupied by Jay-ar Manansala and his tenant Vivian Sasan.

Arson investigators reported that the fire originated in the southern portion of Manansala's room on the second floor, but the exact cause remains undetermined.

The fatalities were all confirmed to have died due to suffocation.

The fire was declared under control by 11:18 PM after initially reaching the first alarm level.

It took until 11:58 PM for the flames to be completely extinguished, having consumed five homes in the vicinity.

Authorities estimate that approximately 11 families were rendered homeless due to the fire, with damages valued at around 600,000 Philippine pesos.

In other news, 33 individuals suspected of cybercrime activities were arrested by the PNP-Anti Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) during a month-long operation in May. The arrests included 10 individuals involved in libel and 23 associated with various forms of fraud, including violations of the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act, illegal product sales, human trafficking, and forgery.

PNP-ACG Director PBGen. Bernard Yang emphasized the agency's commitment to bolstering cyber safety amid increasing online threats and urged the public to exercise caution in their social media interactions.

Meanwhile, authorities in Pasay City apprehended two men suspected of robbery and theft after they allegedly attacked a man resting on a service road in Roxas Boulevard.

The incident occurred in the early hours of May 26, 2025, resulting in the victim losing personal belongings intended for his ailing child's medical expenses.

The suspects, now detained, have claimed they were wrongly identified.

Separately, four individuals were arrested in Las Piñas City for the illegal sale of fertilizers and pesticides.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), in partnership with the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA), conducted the operation on May 30, resulting in the seizure of goods worth 2.5 million pesos.

The CIDG has expressed gratitude for the successful operation and reiterated their commitment to combating illegal activities.

Additionally, the Philippine Department of Health has indicated a link between rising HIV cases and increased access to online pornography, dating apps, and spas offering sexual services.

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa highlighted the need for expanded testing guidelines to address the public health issue, given that a significant portion of HIV infections occur among men who have sex with men who are not currently mandated to undergo regular testing.
