At the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, Thailand and Cambodia sealed an enhanced cease-fire deal overseen by U.S. President Donald Trump, marking a key milestone in regional peace efforts.
Thailand and Cambodia formally signed an enhanced cease-fire agreement today during the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, in a ceremony attended and mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The accord builds on a truce brokered in July following a five-day artillery and rocket exchange that left at least forty-eight dead and displaced about three hundred thousand people.
The deal requires both nations to withdraw heavy weapons from their disputed border area, collaborate on land-mine removal, and establishes a regional observer team under ASEAN oversight.
Thailand also committed to release eighteen Cambodian detainees as part of the agreement.
