MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that the 2025 midterm elections in the Philippines achieved a record voter turnout of 81.65%, marking the highest participation rate in the history of the Commission for midterm elections.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia confirmed this figure during a press briefing at the Manila Hotel Tent City.

He noted that this voter turnout reflects a significant engagement from the electorate, particularly among young voters, similar to trends observed in the 2022 presidential elections, which reported an 82.5% turnout.

From a registered voter population exceeding 68 million, more than 55 million individuals participated in the election.

This level of participation is particularly notable, as midterm elections typically experience lower turnout rates compared to presidential elections.

In conjunction with the reported high voter turnout, the Philippine National Police (PNP) indicated a 53% decrease in election-related incidents compared to previous elections.

The PNP-Public Information Office noted that only 49 verified and validated incident reports were registered in the most recent elections, down from 103 incidents during the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections the previous year.

The PNP attributed this decline in incidents to successful efforts to ensure order and safety during the elections, emphasizing adherence to directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and PNP Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil.

The police force received commendations for their performance and commitment during the election period.

As the PNP continues its duties, a heightened alert status remains in effect across the police forces nationwide, with the exception of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), to facilitate ongoing election paraphernalia returns to the Comelec.
