Philippine National Police Establishes Special Committees to Combat Kidnapping and Fake News

The PNP forms Joint Anti-Kidnapping Action Committee and Joint Anti-Fake News Action Committee to enhance public safety and combat misinformation
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has established two specialized committees, the Joint Anti-Kidnapping Action Committee (JAKAC) and the Joint Anti-Fake News Action Committee (JAFNAC), to address kidnapping and fake news.

The JAKAC will focus on identifying, investigating, and neutralizing organized kidnap-for-hire operations, while the JAFNAC will address the spread of misinformation and disinformation that threaten public trust and national stability.

The formation of these committees is aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision for a secure and informed citizenry.

The JAKAC will be led by PNP Deputy Chief for Investigation Lt. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo, and the JAFNAC will be led by PNP Deputy Chief for Operations Lt. Gen. Robert Rodriguez.

The PNP has recently resolved a high-profile kidnapping and murder case, and is also addressing the spread of unverified reports of alleged kidnappings online.

The creation of these committees aims to institutionalize coordination, monitoring, and response strategies to combat disinformation across all platforms.
