The Philippine boxing team concluded its participation in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament, held at the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok, with a tally of two bronze medals.

Riza Pasuit and Mark Ashley Fajardo both reached the semifinal rounds in their respective weight classes but were unable to advance to the finals, resulting in their bronze medal finishes.

Riza Pasuit faced Kazakhstan’s Viktoriya Grafeyeva in the women's lightweight division (60 kg), where she suffered a unanimous decision loss.

All five judges scored the bout in favor of Grafeyeva, with scorecards reading 30-26 from three judges and 30-27 from the other two.

Mark Ashley Fajardo competed in the men’s welter (65 kg) class, where he also lost by unanimous decision to Thailand’s Khunatip Pidnuch.

Fajardo received scores of 28-29 from two judges and 27-30 from three other judges.

Both Pasuit and Fajardo's progress to the semifinals guaranteed them bronze medals, as their teammates were eliminated in earlier rounds.

Other Filipino boxers who participated in the tournament included Aaron Jude Bado (men’s bantam 55 kg), Jay Bryan Baricuatro (men’s fly 50 kg), John Paul Napoles (men’s light 60 kg), Ronald Chavez Jr. (men’s light middle 70 kg), and Ofelia Magno (women’s light fly 48 kg).

The Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament serves as a significant opportunity for the Philippine boxing team to prepare for the upcoming 2025 Southeast Asian Games, which Thailand will also host in December.

The Philippine team aims to maintain or surpass its previous performance, which included four gold, five silver, and one bronze medals at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
