Philippine Airlines Partners with Alaska Airlines to Enhance Frequent Flyer Benefits

Mabuhay Miles and Mileage Plan members to benefit from new collaboration, expanding travel options across networks.
Philippine Airlines (PAL) has announced a partnership with Alaska Airlines to enhance travel options for members of both airlines' frequent flyer programs.

This strategic collaboration is designed to expand PAL's international footprint by allowing members of its Mabuhay Miles program and Alaska Airlines' Mileage Plan to earn and redeem miles across each other's flight networks.

According to the statement released by PAL, Mabuhay Miles members will be able to accumulate miles on eligible flights operated by Alaska Airlines.

Conversely, members of the Mileage Plan will earn miles when flying on selected PAL routes.

This partnership is expected to take effect in the coming months, promising greater flexibility and rewards for travelers between the Philippines and North America.

PAL Vice President for Marketing, Alvin Miranda, emphasized that this collaboration significantly enhances connectivity and flexibility for passengers.

He noted that the initiative enriches the overall travel experience offered to PAL's members.

The new agreement will also strengthen the existing partnership between PAL and Hawaiian Airlines, which operates under the Alaska Air Group.

Following Alaska's acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines in September 2022, the frequent flyer collaboration will allow Hawaiian Airlines' Mileage Plan members to earn and redeem miles on PAL flights.

Alaska Airlines' Chief Commercial Officer, Andrew Harrison, remarked on the benefits for the large Filipino communities in Hawaii, California, and Washington state, highlighting the value of earning Mileage Plan miles on their transpacific journeys flown by Philippine Airlines.

This partnership is intended to provide PAL passengers with access to Alaska Airlines' extensive domestic network, which includes various destinations across the United States.

Additionally, PAL and Alaska Airlines are in discussions to broaden their collaboration to include reciprocal codesharing arrangements between key cities in both airlines’ networks.

PAL's partnership with Alaska Airlines coincides with the airline's request to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to extend its flight operations between Manila and Seattle for an additional year.

Currently, PAL operates flights to Seattle three times a week, and its exemption authority is set to expire on June 24.

As the flag carrier of the Philippines and the oldest commercial airline in Asia, PAL maintains the largest network of nonstop flights between the Philippines and various US destinations, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Honolulu.

In total, PAL operates a global network from hubs in Manila, Cebu, Clark, and Davao to 37 international destinations across Asia, North America, Australia, and the Middle East.
