Multiple Fatalities and Injuries in Recent Traffic Accidents in the Philippines

A series of traffic incidents involving trucks and passenger vehicles in Quezon City and Baguio City has resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
Three individuals were confirmed dead and seven others were injured following an accident involving an 18-wheeler truck and five vehicles on Batasan-San Mateo Road in Quezon City on Wednesday night.

The incident, which occurred around 11:30 PM, left two victims dead at the scene, while a 49-year-old motorcycle rider succumbed to injuries shortly after being transported to a medical facility.

The injured parties were taken to Rosario Maclang Hospital and East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

According to the Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit's report, the truck, operated by a driver identified only as 'Eruel', reportedly lost its brakes and collided at high speed with three motorcycles, a sedan, an AUV, and a separate container van that detached from the truck due to the force of the impact.

The container van was propelled several meters and came to a standstill in the middle of the road, resulting in significant traffic disruptions that lasted for hours.

The truck driver described the moment the brakes failed while navigating a downhill slope, expressing remorse and characterizing the incident as an accident beyond his control.

He has since been taken into custody and faces charges related to reckless imprudence that resulted in multiple homicides, physical injuries, and property damage.

The driver's license has been suspended for 90 days by the Land Transportation Office, which has also issued a show cause order to the owner of the truck.

In another incident, three people died early Thursday morning when their delivery truck overturned after colliding with a Toyota Tamaraw FX, Hyundai Tucson, and Mitsubishi L300 on Buhagan (Bokawkan) Road in Baguio City.

The collision, which occurred around 3:30 AM, resulted in immediate fatalities for the driver and two passengers of the truck, while the driver of the Tamaraw FX sustained injuries.

The police report indicated that the truck, loaded with vehicle spare parts, lost control and struck several stationary vehicles and traffic signs before overturning.

Additionally, a tragic outing for a family turned deadly in Pagbilao, Quezon, when their passenger jeepney overturned, killing a 72-year-old woman identified as Evelyn.

Fifteen other passengers were injured.

The incident took place on Saturday morning when the jeep's brakes reportedly failed during travel on a highway, leading to the vehicle losing control and ultimately flipping over.

Emergency responders transported those injured to Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City, while the driver of the jeep was taken into custody for questioning regarding the incident.
