Massive Drug Seizures Unveiled in the Philippines Amid Enhanced Law Enforcement Efforts

Philippine authorities report significant drug haul linked to organized crime, alongside increased anti-criminality operations.
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director Isagani R. Nerez disclosed that a substantial quantity of illegal drugs, specifically 1,013 kilograms of methamphetamine, colloquially known as shabu, with an estimated street value of P6.88 billion, was recovered along the coast of Zambales, Pangasinan, and Ilocos Sur.

The packages of shabu bore Chinese markings and are believed to be associated with Chinese triad networks, which are notorious for their involvement in various criminal activities including drug smuggling via maritime routes.

A total of 52 fishermen played a crucial role in retrieving and reporting the floating drugs to the authorities.

Additionally, a separate operation in Pasig City led to the seizure of 120 kilograms of illegal drugs, worth approximately P816 million.

The drugs were reportedly concealed within snack boxes originating from California, USA.

This successful interdiction was the result of coordinated efforts by multiple law enforcement agencies including the PDEA and local police.

The drugs were confirmed to be high-grade methamphetamine through scientific analysis.

As part of ongoing anti-criminality initiatives, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) reported the arrest of 211 individuals within a week from June 1 to June 7, which includes 79 drug suspects and 74 wanted persons.

The arrests were part of a broader anti-drug campaign aimed at reducing illegal drug activities in the city.

Moreover, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the deportation of 115 foreign nationals, primarily involved in illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs).

These individuals were found to be undocumented and engaged in activities linked to cybercrime and human trafficking, reflecting the government's intensified crackdown on illegal immigration in alignment with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive.

In another operation, agents from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized P23 million worth of shabu and imported marijuana in Davao City during a raid on a repacking hub disguised as a food delivery business.

The NBI's quick response was enabled by intelligence reports regarding illegal drug activities in the area.

On the regulatory front, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced the seizure of 65 smuggled vehicles in Talisay City, marking a continuing series of operations against illegal vehicle imports.

These vehicles, which were imported as right-hand drive units and illegally converted, violated local laws aimed at public safety.

A female national from Peru was apprehended during the operation, indicating possible connections to larger smuggling networks.

The series of operations and seizures highlights the Philippine government's commitment to combatting drug-related issues and organized crime amid rising concerns about illegal activities impacting public safety.
