Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court (ICC) have submitted a sixth set of evidence against former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained, in connection with accusations of crimes against humanity.

The document, dated June 3, was authored by ICC Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang and outlines a total of 90 items categorized into three distinct groups.

Among these, 32 items fall under the category of 'crimes against humanity-murder,' detailing alleged 'clearance operations' conducted during Duterte's presidency.

A second category consists of 35 items related to barangay clearance operations during the same period.

The final category includes 23 items designated as 'contextual Elements – background information – material for the preparation of the defence.'

The evidence submitted thus far will be considered in the upcoming confirmation of charges hearing, which is scheduled for September 23, 2025. Since the disclosure phase began on April 30, the prosecution has presented a total of 267 items of evidence and has successfully requested and received two extensions to the time limits set by the ICC.

Previously, Duterte's legal team sought to disqualify two judges from ICC pre-trial chamber 1, yet this request was denied by the chamber, which asserted that the defense did not adequately challenge the presumption of impartiality regarding the judges.

The charges leveled against Duterte focus on crimes against humanity involving at least 43 instances of killings linked to the Davao Death Squad and police actions during his administration.

The time frame for these allegations spans from November 1, 2011, to March 16, 2019.

Duterte's controversial anti-drug campaign has led to an official government-reported death toll of approximately 6,000 individuals.

Conversely, human rights organizations have posited that the actual number of fatalities may reach as high as 30,000, with many victims being minor drug users and dealers.
