Four Family Members Arrested in Quezon City Robbery Incident

Suspects apprehended after a robbery at a junk shop, with weapons and prior criminal involvement revealed.
In a significant police operation, four family members were arrested in Quezon City following a robbery incident at a junk shop early on a Friday morning.

The suspects, identified as Mark Anthony, 55; Mark Acevin, 24; Mark Eugene, 25; and Renquel, 24, all residents of Bagong Barrio in Caloocan City, were apprehended after the quick mobilization of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

The robbery occurred at Princess Junkshop located on No. 95 Congressional Avenue, Barangay Bahay Toro, where the owner, referred to as 'Boy', reported that armed suspects entered the premises and demanded cash and personal items.

Following the robbery, the suspects fled the scene using two motorcycles.

In response, QCPD tasked Officer in Charge PCol. Randy Glenn Silvio with mobilizing resources, including the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) led by PMaj. Allan Rainier Cabral.

Through forward and backward tracking using CCTV footage, the police located the suspects in Bagong Barrio.

Subsequently, a joint operation with Caloocan Sub-station 5 resulted in their arrest around 1:40 PM on the same day on Binata Street.

During the arrests, police recovered a caliber .38 revolver with three live ammunition from Mark Anthony, while Mark Eugene was found with a replica pistol and Mark Acevin possessed an improvised gun.

None of the suspects were able to present legal documents for their firearms.

Further investigation revealed Mark Anthony's involvement in past robbery and carnapping cases in Quezon City and San Mateo, Rizal, while Mark Acevin was linked to illegal drug activities.

Separately, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, PGen. Nicolas Torre III, emphasized the force's commitment to upholding human rights and ensuring due process during police operations.

This statement was made in light of concerns raised by the Commission on Human Rights regarding the PNP’s efficiency metrics connected to increased arrests amidst intensified anti-drug operations.

PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo confirmed adherence to legal standards as mandated by the Philippine Constitution and Criminal Procedure.

Additionally, in a separate incident, the Quezon Police Provincial Office seized P1.8 million worth of suspected shabu during an anti-drug operation after apprehending a notorious drug dealer known as 'Alyas Tortoise' in Lucena City.

The operation led to the confiscation of multiple plastic sachets containing shabu, alongside a digital weighing scale and cash.

The suspect faces charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.

Furthermore, the PNP is advancing its technological capabilities by promoting the use of body-worn cameras, drones, and mobile closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems to improve police response times and enhance accountability in operations.

The organization currently operates approximately 2,700 body-worn cameras, with plans for greater integration into everyday policing, particularly in community safety efforts.
