Television host and comedian Vice Ganda's endorsement boosts support for senatorial candidate Benhur Abalos, drawing significant social media attention.
Benhur Abalos, former Secretary of the Interior and Local Government in the Philippines, has seen a marked increase in support following a prominent endorsement from television host and comedian Vice Ganda.
The endorsement was made via Vice Ganda's
Facebook page and has garnered 11.7 million views from social media users, contributing to Abalos' visibility in the upcoming senatorial elections.
In a public statement accompanying the endorsement, Vice Ganda criticized the potential candidates who might fill the top positions, suggesting a preference for Abalos.
The endorsement comes at a crucial time in the election cycle as various candidates vie for public support in the Philippines.
Prior to Vice Ganda’s announcement, Abalos had already received endorsements from a range of political colleagues and allies within the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas coalition.
Notable endorsements include support from ACT-CIS Representative Erwin Tulfo, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, former Senators Tito Sotto and Panfilo Lacson, as well as several entertainment personalities such as Jake Cuenca, Priscilla Meirelles, and Ai Ai delas Alas.
Abalos is campaigning on a platform that includes proposals to remove value-added tax (VAT) on electricity and fuel, reforms in rice commodity laws, and enhanced protections for small fishermen and contract workers.
These initiatives are aimed at addressing pressing economic concerns faced by many Filipinos, particularly in light of recent inflation and economic challenges.
