Violence Erupts in the Philippines: Four Family Members Killed, Multiple Injuries Reported

Armed attacks in Maguindanao and Cavite leave several dead and injured amid ongoing investigations.
COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Four members of a family, including a 10-year-old girl, were killed in a violent incident in Barangay Ladia, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, on the afternoon of October 14, with three others sustaining injuries.

The Sultan Kudarat Municipal Police confirmed the deaths of Kadir Indao, his relative Rohana Indao, and two others identified as Basit Gampong and Mokaram Sarat.

The injured, siblings Rohamin and Hashim Omar along with Noria Indao, were rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Esmael Madin, the chief of Sultan Kudarat Police, the victims were in their adjacent yard when armed men in a minivan arrived and opened fire with assault rifles.

After the shooting, the assailants fled the scene.

Authorities are currently investigating the identities of the perpetrators and the motives behind the attack.

In a separate incident, 16 individuals, including a jeepney driver, were injured when the vehicle overturned on a highway in Barangay Nagyubuyuban, San Fernando City, La Union, on the night of October 14. The La Union Police reported that the driver, identified as Chiquito Alisen, 45, lost control of the jeepney due to a mechanical failure while navigating a steep area of the road, causing it to roll over.

The passengers, whose names include Edgar Vecino, Daisy Espinueva, and several minors identified only by their first names, were immediately assisted by a rescue team and transported to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center for urgent medical care.

Additionally, a shooting incident occurred during a flag-raising ceremony in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, where three barangay officials were killed by a former security officer.

Reports indicate that the assailant, identified as Ariel Sabater, 50, opened fire during the event held in front of the barangay hall before turning the weapon on himself.

The deceased officials have been named as Barangay Chairman Raul Ballos, 56, and barangay councilors Jose Era, 65, and Marvin Cañete, 54. Another victim, Christine Joseph Bonus, the Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson, was also injured in the shooting and is currently under medical observation.

The investigation into the motives and circumstances surrounding these violent incidents is ongoing as authorities seek to determine the underlying causes and ensure public safety.
