Gun Buy-Bust Operations in the Philippines Result in Multiple Arrests and Shootings

Authorities carry out simultaneous operations, leading to a fatal confrontation in Pasig and arrests of gun and drug suspects in Taguig and Manila.
In the Philippines, a series of law enforcement operations targeting illegal arms and drug trafficking have resulted in significant incidents over recent days.

In Pasig City, a man was fatally shot during an attempted gun sale to undercover officers in a buy-bust operation.

The suspect, identified as ‘Boy’, 21, from Barangay Pinagbuhatan, was reported to be involved in illegal arms dealing, robbery incidents, and hired gun activities.

The operation occurred around midnight on Thursday after police received intelligence on his activities.

According to the Pasig City Police, the suspect agreed to meet with an undercover buyer and was caught selling a .45 caliber pistol for PHP 21,000.

However, upon receiving the marked money, the suspect allegedly attempted to fire at the police officer instead of providing the firearm.

Officers responded swiftly, resulting in the fatal shooting of the suspect.

Additionally, it was revealed that prior to the operation, the suspect had engaged in a robbery with an accomplice, who is also being pursued by law enforcement.

In a related incident, another suspect known as ‘Mark’, 39, was arrested in Taguig City during a separate buy-bust operation at around 12:30 AM on Lawton Avenue corner Santos Extension Street in Barangay South Cembo.

According to Officer-in-Charge of the Southern Police District, PLt. Colonel Antonio Ananayo, this operation also followed a tip-off.

Officers seized two .45 caliber firearms with obliterated serial numbers, two magazines containing ammunition, along with the buy-bust money.

The suspect is set to face inquest proceedings under Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Meanwhile, in Manila, three drug suspects were apprehended during a buy-bust operation in Sta.

Cruz, resulting in the confiscation of around 400 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP 2.7 million.

The Manila Police District reported that the operation, which occurred around 3:45 AM, targeted a suspect known as ‘Polo’, 24, and led to the arrest of two additional suspects in the vicinity.

The suspects are facing charges under Republic Act 9165, known as The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In Maguindanao del Sur, two individuals were killed, and a school principal was injured in separate shooting incidents on Tuesday.

Victim Tato Umbe was shot while seated in a multicab, while businessman Tati Baud was killed in an ambush while transporting goods.

Additionally, Alamanza Ambiton, a principal from Zapakan Elementary School, sustained gunshot wounds inflicted by motorcycle-riding assailants.

The principal managed to seek help and was hospitalized following the incident.

These incidents underscore ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling illegal arms and drug operations in the Philippines, highlighting an environment marked by violence and criminal activity.
