Manuelito Melia Camacho, also known as 'Monching', apprehended at Manila airport in connection with the killing of attorney Joey Luis Wee.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has apprehended a suspect connected to the 2020 murder of Cebu lawyer Joey Luis Wee.
Manuelito Melia Camacho, known as 'Monching', was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) following a standard record check conducted by airport police on June 5, 2025.
The NBI Central Office in Metro Manila announced the arrest through a statement on its official
Facebook page.
NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago emphasized the agency's commitment to thorough investigations and the prompt resolution of cases.
Camacho's arrest was initiated after the Police Intelligence and Investigation Division - Airport Police (PIID) detained an individual identified as Jay-R Santos Reyes for separate offenses, including theft and resisting arrest.
During Reyes' detention, a physical altercation with his partner led to the revelation that his real identity was, in fact, Manuelito Melia Camacho.
The PIID then conducted a record check, discovering an outstanding warrant for Camacho's arrest for murder, issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 10 in Cebu City.
This information was relayed to the Cebu District Office, which confirmed Camacho's identity and his connection to the outstanding warrant.
Following this, agents from the NBI-International Airport Investigation Division executed the warrant at the Airport Police office in Pasay City.
Reports indicate that during his arrest, Camacho acknowledged his involvement in the case against Wee.
However, the NBI has not disclosed specific details regarding Camacho's role in the murder.
Joey Luis Wee, aged 51, was fatally shot by two assailants on November 23, 2020, while walking to his office after parking in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City.
The shooting occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Director Santiago commended the NBI-IAID agents for their successful arrest and recognized the collaborative efforts of both the NBI-Cebdo and the PIID, underscoring the significance of coordination among law enforcement agencies.
