Air India Plane Crash Claims Lives of 265, One Survivor Emerges

A tragic incident unfolds as Air India Flight AI-171 crashes shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, leading to numerous fatalities.
On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI-171 crashed in a residential area near Ahmedabad airport shortly after takeoff, resulting in the loss of at least 265 lives.

Among the 242 passengers and crew onboard, reports confirm that one individual, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national of Indian origin, survived the tragedy.

Ramesh was seated in proximity to an emergency exit, which facilitated his escape during the crash.

The aircraft had a total of 242 individuals aboard, including two pilots and ten cabin crew members.

The passenger list comprised 217 adults, 13 children, and two infants.

Among the passengers were 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian.

Initial reports indicated that the plane struck a canteen building, where many students were present during lunchtime, further complicating the disaster's impact.

The crash sparked an immediate emergency response, with search and rescue teams deployed to the site.

Eyewitnesses reported the loud noise of the crash, followed by smoke rising from the wreckage.

The local authorities confirmed that many fatalities included individuals not on the aircraft who were at the site of the crash.

In light of the incident, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines extended condolences to India and the families affected by the disaster.

In a statement, he expressed sorrow for the tragedy and solidarity with the bereaved families, underscoring the profound loss shared across nations.

The crash site has been secured for investigation, and authorities have confirmed that the black box has been recovered, which is expected to provide critical data for understanding the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As of this report, investigations are ongoing, aiming to ascertain the factors that led to this catastrophic event.
